Atmosea is an epic women's surf brand, aimed at gurfers (girl surfers)! Maria's dog is even called Gurfy and she lives and breathes surfing. All the sponsored surfers are people she has surfed with herself, and the office is full of old friends designing clothes they want to wear. A brand built on a love of surfing and each other!

The shop had been running for 6 months when Frankie arrived. The walls were white, the shop was dark and the changing rooms strung up with string! Maria's brief was "fun, and a little bit shit!". Atmosea is not a polished brand and people coming to visit the shop in person should feel comfortable and excited, not intimidated, especially people just getting into surfing.

First things first, a visit to five tip shops to see what could be upcycled! From one tip alone, Frankie saved 164kg from landfill. Not bad!

The main areas to focus on were the lighting, the changing rooms, the shelving, the counter, the office at the back and the middle tables as the layout was staying the same.

The lighting was hard with a popcorn 80's ceiling, so the top panels blocking the windows were removed to let in more natural light, plus some lamps.

The changing rooms were originally curtains with a great mirror made by Bri, but also a smaller old mirror in the corner. Frankie scoured the tip shops until she found two old wardrobe sliding doors with mirrors, giant 900mm x 2.4mm beasts for $15. A bargain! The changing rooms were constructed out of wood, and the wall behind the counter extended by 20cm to facilitate that. The best bit the cut outs of the arched changing rooms became the new shelving in the kids section!

The counter top was small and cramped and dark, so Frankie upcycled an old writing desk with a half arch on each side to match the changing rooms, painted it lemon yellow and then tiled the back in light blue and brown tiles to make it the front!

The middle tables were fun. Upcycling two old pythons, Frankie make a mushroom shared tiled main table for the jewellry, a second terracotta tiled table and 4 yellow tiles pitches to use around the space in different formations deepening on shop, or gallery opening or movie night.

The big change was the paint on the walls. From a old white to a lemon yellow, a cornflower blue/purple, a bright orange and a neutral terracotta, the shop echoed the colours on the website and in the fun colourful clothing in the store.

The standout pieces were the two flower tables, one purple one yellow, based on some of the swimwear designs. Cute!
