Years

2024 – current

Location

Magnetic Island, Australia

When Frankie arrived on the island in 2020 she noticed a tiny pink cottage one street back from the beach and immediately fell in love with it! After parking her car outside for four years, when her half of Jungle Club sold she could finally make an offer and buy it. It was by far the cheapest property on the island at the time, which was crazy because it’s on 1000 m² of land, a 12 minute walk from the ferry, a one minute walk from the supermarket and cafes and the beach. It’s super central and very very cute.

When she got her hands on it, it had been empty for years and a family of possums was living in it! It’s one of only two heritage listed properties on the entire island as it used to be an old pineapple sorting shack back in the 1950's.

The original pink external walls had slowly been replaced with corrugated iron and either left silver or painted a nasty green. The first thing Frankie did was restore the outside back to it's original glory – a dreamy peachy pink. The inside was white (grey) and unloved and the window screens had seen better days.

The back patio under the crocodile table has the septic system which needs to be accessible, so Frankie designed a frame and filled it with pebbles, to make it usable but also accessible. The whole back deck had seen better days! The concrete was cracked, there was a giant tree growing in the flower pot and half of the roof needed replacing along with the supporting structure. With all that fixed up and repainted white and the building repainted pink she was free to go crazy on the inside adding colour, pattern and fun to each room. Think cane, pineapples and other laid back island furniture to keep the vibes high!

She’s more in love with the pink shack than ever and planted a row of palms in the front. Next up the 9m shed and setting up a free book exchange outside for the lovely neighbours!
