Ahhh the Sunshine Shack. A very basic little island shack with no sink in the bathroom or oven in the kitchen. Just a few cupboards, some cute blue French doors and a huge garden filled with palm trees.
The shack was a simple T shape with a lounge, a bedroom off to the side, and a step down into a very small kitchen. The bathroom was out the back, no walls or sink and a dingy little toilet shower room. The was also a second building with a half hearted bedroom and a weird storage space.
The plan was simple – the removalists were on their way from the Gold Coast (21 hour drive) so Frankie and co had just over a day to paint the aging interior white with the good old spray gun.
The truck was due at 5am and thinking it was a typo but not entirely sure Frankie went to open the gate – and amazingly enough a giant truck was there, on the island, in Horseshoe Bay. They quickly unloaded the boxes as Frankie sorted them into the house and within 48 hours the house had been repainted and moved in to.
Over the next 3 years a new oven was added, new aircon, a partial repaint of the exterior for Frankie Magazine, and a full repaint just after. In the garden they found the graves of Adam and Steph’s dogs, Sunny and Teal. The house was yellow with blue trims and deciding it was important to honour the four legged friends, it was kept yellow and blue.
In 2025 the shack received a much needed redesign, and this time there was no handed down furniture or white walls. Sunny yellows, warm terracotta and cornflower blue took over, with a custom designed couch and fun blue/brown checked tiles in the kitchen and over the doors. A second bath and outside shower was added outside, and given the Frankie tile treatment too, palms and sunshine to honour the house!
