When Frankie arrived on Magnetic Island she was really excited about the A-frame project but once that was finished there was definitely something missing. She loved the creative communities she was part of in Sydney, Melbourne and Byron. She had the idea to create a new creative community on the island and found a commercial property for sale with some friends.
In early 2021 they renovated the space and the original lineup was three businesses: a coffee van, a co-working space and a Creative Residency program. Frankie was in charge of the Creative Residency program and invited three artists, designers, writers, creatives to come stay on site for a week, with access to the pool, fresh coffees and a desk to work from.
The second phase of Jungle Club was to expand even further and involved Frankie renovating the empty spaces left in the building and curating a business lineup that meant supporting all the other businesses. She messaged about 40 tattoo studios in Queensland before someone finally got back to her to rent the space! They decided the building would be branded as one space so that they could do marketing that benefitted everyone, which Frankie was also in charge of.
Some of the proudest moments from this project were; growing the Instagram to 3,000 people (when there were only 2,000 people on the island!), the Monster Children style parties with a free beer sponsor, the way people could get a tattoo and coffee, buy a shirt and then do some work was such a lovely concept to bring together. The amount of Creative Residents that ended up moving to the island was amazing, buying houses, or visiting a lot more regularly, meeting new partners, starting their own businesses, two new podcasts, a new skatepark and even a whole cafe – that is a true creative community! It also gave locals a chance to interact with cutting edge creatives from around the world during the workshops, exhibitions and monthly markets.
The final lineup was seven small business renting spaces; coffee, coworking, Creative Residencies, homewares, tattoos, clothing and photography studio. In 2024, Frankie sold her half of the business to her business partners to continue Jungle Club into it's fourth year.
